It feels good to be card-making again!
This past week, my wonderful dad turned 60 (!!) and we all can hardly believe it - he looks and acts much younger than he is. I think it’s true that 60 is the new 50; 50 is the new 40; and 30 is the new 20. I don’t think anyone is saying 20 is the new 10, though. But I digress, so let’s get on with it already!
I feel like I could have come up with something more creative than this for my Dad’s birthday, but he seemed to be very happy with it, so I think it was just fine. I always struggle with masculine cards because I have to refrain from using floral stamps, paper & embellishments! No feminine ribbon & bows, no adorable swoopy border punches or pastel buttons – nope, not for the men in my life.
Here is the inside of the card, which is truly what makes this a 60th birthday card:
Whoops, Jake didn’t sign the card. I sure hope he signed it before I gave Dad the card but if not, it wouldn’t be the first time… or the last time I forgot to have him sign a card! I made the bouncing “60″ with my Opposites Attract Cricut cartridge, my Cricut Expressions machine, an orange Square Stax, puffy double-sided tape, and some black craft wire I coiled around a thick pen. Here’s what the underside looks like, below. I adhered the coil to the card base and the back of the 60 with Scotch magic tape. It was very easy to make and I’m happy I finally found a use for my craft wire.
So, happy 60th birthday, Dad! You are loved beyond expressible words, and you are an incredible person that everyone looks up to – and that’s not just because you’re over 6 feet tall!

Yes, Jake signed the card, and I LOVED the card. You’re so creative, and it’s always a delight to see a card from you. Every one is a special work of art and love. I cherish each one of them. I’ve got some recent ones from you up on my bathroom mirror where I see them many times a day. I’m also delighted to be “60″, whatever year it “really” is. I’ve never been 60 before, so every day is a new adventure!
Love you,
Dad

That’s a great card! For me, it’s always seems hard to come up with great “guy” cards and I love this one! That’s a cool idea too, to use the craft wire to make a spring…great work!

Thank you, Deborah! It’s comforting to know I’m not alone in being stumped when it comes to making “guy” cards.
I take a photo of every card I made, so I’ll do a future blog post of all my “guy” cards. Hopefully that will help others with some ideas. And I am really having fun making everything bounce, spring, and “pop” with craft wire ~ thanks!
