Happy Birthday, Gramma!

I am blessed with two amazing Grandmas and today is my dad’s mom’s birthday – happy birthday, Gramma Bee!  When my brother and I were growing up, my parents thought it would be easier for us to call our grandparents by the first letter of their last names.  I still call them Gramma Jay and Gramma Bee and what’s neat is I can illustrate their last names with a blue jay or bumble bee.  :)

Gramma Bee is incredibly talented and creative – she crocheted me a tote bag from stripes of cut up plastic grocery bags (it’s SO COOL)!  She took the logo I made for my husband’s company (that my cousin turned into a digital file) and made several embroidered patches for his polo shirts.  Gramma crocheted me several flowers for card-making; made me a custom wall hanging to store all my craft tools in (rulers, brayers, scissors, hole punchers…); sewed curtains for me; made me seat cushions, pajamas and so, SO much more.  I am just one of her seven grand-children and if you count our spouses, she has more than seven, plus several great-grandchildren.  If you think she’s made a lot of things for me, that’s just the tip of the iceberg.  Every family member gets custom, special gifts she created for us for our birthday and Christmas.  This is one extremely giving, creative and talented lady.  I believe I get a lot of my creative genes from her, but I think she is far more clever than I am.

Last year was Gramma’s 80th birthday and we held a party for her at my parents’ house.  This was the birthday party invitation I made for the family.  I nabbed her Facebook picture and printed it on glossy photo paper and tore the edges for fun.

I made the cards in an assembly line and liked the way this looked.  Here are my little soldiers, lined up and ready for the button embellishments:

This was the card I made for her last year.  The heart pops out when the card is opened.  I hand-wrote the sentiment with a sparkly Copic Spica marker:

I really hope she received her card in the mail yesterday.  She subscribes to my blog via email and is on Facebook.  This will spoil the surprise if it somehow did not arrive on time.  Gramma, look away until you get the mail!!  ;)

"I Love You Sew Much" Birthday Card

I made the card with Cosmo Cricket paper and cut the two 12″ x 12″ sheets down into two diagonal pieces.  Using a zig-zag acrylic stamp from CTMH, I faux stitched the two pieces together like fabric and embellished the card with buttons, a sewing machine image, and my favorite new measuring tape ribbon!
