Reusing and Repurposing Christmas Cards

I am very sentimental and I do not throw away cards people give me – just ask my husband or my parents and they’ll nod as they recall the boxes of “special Stephanie papers” they’ve helped me move over the years.  This year I got bold and tried something I’ve never done before.  I saved the message from past Christmas cards, and lifted elements from the front of a few cards to re-use for other cards.  This is something I’m sure a lot of creative people do, but it was new to me.  I like to recycle and reuse things, so I was happy that I could make three new cards to send from one pretty card I had received in the past.

These are the three cards I made from the card.  The cards came together so quickly because the embellishments were already done.  I just added a little ribbon, maybe some gems, Stickles glitter glue, a sticker and a fun edge punch… and voila!

I turned one card into three cards!

I used cardstock from the DCWV Shimmer Stack to make these cards.  I am hooked on shimmery paper!  You may clack any picture for a larger image.

This picture doesn’t show the gold edge like the first main picture does, but I thought it would be a good card for my brother, a proud UW Husky Alum.

I encourage you to save your Christmas cards and look at them with a creative eye.  Can you reuse elements from them to make more cards?  How many can you make from just one card?  Stretch yourself and get creative!  🙂  Thank you for reading my blog.

Four New ‘Close to My Heart’ Cards

I admire my creative blogger-friends like Jayma Malme and Kelly Marie Alvarez who blog and bring us fresh new content daily.  I make around 800 cards per year, so I know I have enough cards to blog daily, but finding the time to blog is the biggest challenge.  I could be crafting instead of typing about crafting!  🙂

Here are some cards I made at a friend’s Close to My Heart (CTMH) card class on December 1st.  Lisa Sargent was our creative class instructor and we made ten cards – four different designs.CTMH Cards Made at the Class

I love CTMH’s double-sided paper and I turned over the light blue heavy-duty paper to reveal a more masculine look.  Here are the three holiday cards we made.  Don’t you just love the swirls on the reindeer?  All the paper, ribbon, glitter, embellishments, stamps and ink are CTMH products.  Click any image for a larger picture.

Valentine’s Day is just a couple of months away, so here is the beautiful card we made.  Below this picture is an image of what we stamped inside.  These stamps came from the current Stamp of the Month stamp set.

Isn’t this a cheerful card?  This owl makes me smile!  I liked the way the layered torn paper looks.  This is a technique I often forget about.

Finally, here is the simple and colorful birthday card we made.  It seems like banners are really popular in birthday cards right now and I am on the band-wagon – I love this look!
